Disclaimer

Estimates only

Estimates only, based on average prices and typical weather. Your actual cost depends on your home, equipment, usage and local supplier. Not financial or engineering advice.

Prices

Prices on this site are U.S. Energy Information Administration averages of residential prices, excluding taxes. Your dealer's price will differ because of delivery fees, minimum deliveries, contracts, taxes and local competition. We do not offer fuel and cannot tell you what a particular dealer will charge.

Calculators

Calculator results use average prices, normal weather from 1991 to 2020 and simplified models of your home and equipment. Some inputs are our own estimates, listed in the methodology. Actual use depends on your home, equipment, thermostat habits and the weather in a given year.

The heat pump size calculator is not a Manual J load calculation. A qualified contractor should perform one before you buy equipment.

Not advice

Nothing here is financial, tax, legal or engineering advice. Rebates and tax credits change; check current rules with your state energy office, utility or tax professional.

Links and advertising

The site currently shows no advertising and no affiliate links. If that changes, links that may earn us a commission will be marked, with a notice such as "We may earn a commission if you use this link," and will not change our numbers.
