About HomeHeatCost

Who makes this site

HomeHeatCost is an independent data tool made by windflash, a pen name. It is not affiliated with any fuel dealer, utility or equipment seller, and it does not sell fuel.

Why it exists

Heating costs are a big household expense, and the best public price data sits in government tables that are hard to read. We turn the U.S. Energy Information Administration's weekly propane and heating oil prices into state pages, and add calculators that use the same prices and normal weather to estimate a winter bill.

Editorial principles

• We use public government data only, and every price on the site shows its date and a link to the source.
• "Last updated" means the date of the data, not the date we rebuilt the site.
• Where a number is our own estimate, we say so, and the methodology explains how it is made.
• Everything on the site is free. We do not require sign-up.
